Painting
I have always enjoyed painting and drawing, and
I have experiemented with different techniques
and materials.
About two years ago, I took up painting more
seriously after a break, and I am now focusing
mostly on acrylics.
To contrast with my previous series of New York
motifs, this series deals with the human
environment of my other life, my earlier life,
my childhood. The Village of Åkerö
outside Leksand is where my grandmother was
born and grew up, and the cultural environments
here still hold the echos of my and my family's past.
My most recent series is based on a set of nudes
that a friend took of me twelve years ago. The
environment is "Stora Skuggan" in
Stockholm, Sweden. The pictures were taken over
the course of a year. This is a work in progress -
neither the paintings or their titles have been
finalized.
One spring day, sitting on the fire escape outside
my window in Chelsea, the roof line of the building
next door filled me, and I had to paint it. This
series is a homage to that strange, dirty, gritty,
unpredictable being that is the New York I have
grown to love.
